I don’t know what the hell happened, but I was typing away on this post and it suddenly decided to “publish” itself. Sorry for that. It should have been published after midnight on Thursday morning…..oh well
At one time I thought I was addicted to golf. I couldn’t get enough. I was a traveling salesman with a van loaded with guitars, amps, violins and my golf clubs. I knew where every local public course was in every city and I could get 18 holes in before most of my music stores opened up at 10am. Through the late 90s, I had played every public course in San Diego county, Ventura, Santa Barbara, Riverside, San Bernadino, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, and lots of courses in Orange county and LA county. I was able to obtain a driver’s license for Hawaii and played every course paying only the “Kamaaina rates.” That was a good deal. The Arnold Palmer Turtle Bay resort on the North Shore of Oahu was $27.00. (Instead of $275). Weekends were spent playing on Saturday and Sunday at local Newport Beach courses.
Then, about 10 years ago, a couple of back disks decided they weren’t addicted to anything but rest. So be it.

Today the US Open starts. It will be a doozie. It is being held at the oldest athletic club in America. The San Francisco Olympic Club Lake course is considered by many to have the toughest opening 6 holes in the country. The back nine has a par 3 #13 that could knock someone out of the tourney just by his tee shot. For whatever reason (cruelty?), the USGA has shaved the left side of the green so a ball hit on the green could actually roll off and into a troublesome hazard.

The first two days will have three of the greatest players in the world playing together; Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. This triple pairing is well worth watching.
There are Super Bowl pools, March Madness pools and Swimming pools. My buddy, Dave, has some great “golf pools.” We all throw $25 in the pot, pick 10 players and add up their total $$ winnings to determine our pool winner….FUN!
If you just want to watch the above threesome of Woods, Michelson and Watson, their tee-time is 10:33am both Thursday and Friday.
